Lounge Room Slumber Party

Date Night Idea

What is the secret to an awesome date night?  Your significant other, some creativity and a little bit of planning.

Mike and I strongly believe that even though we are married, we still want to date each other for the rest of our lives.  But with our busy schedules, date nights don’t happen unless we are intentional and book them in.  We have agreed that, for us, once a fortnight is a good frequency and before we book anything else in our month we make sure date night is marked in.

Date nights are times when we do something fun together, something different from the norm.  But like most people, we don’t always feel like going out or spending too much money.  So, as an addition to my monthly blog, I thought I would pass on some of our fun date night ideas, just in case you are ever in need of some yourself.

Lounge Room Slumber Party

Recently on a night when we felt quite lazy and tired from the busy week we decided to go on an “at home adventure”.

We started the evening by making homemade pizzas together.  We really enjoy working side by side in the kitchen, and who can say no to lots of fresh and yummy toppings!

While the pizzas cooked we then moved our very heavy and very awkward king size mattress, with all our bedding in tow, into the middle of our lounge floor (not something we ever do).

We set ourselves up in front of the TV with plenty of cushions and some appropriate mood lighting. Then enjoyed our pizza together, IN BED, crumbs and all!

A slumber party lounge room adventure isn’t complete without some TV watching and good laughs.  Mike & I both enjoy James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke so that was a perfect place to start before we moved on to other random but mostly funny YouTube clips of people falling over and accident-prone children or pets.

That night we slept in the lounge and on opposite sides of the bed, a very disorientating experience, and giggled and chatted after lights went out.  Throw in some kisses and snuggles and it was certainly the best slumber party I’ve ever had!

I have found that one of the key things to the failure or success of a date night is how you talk about it.  We could have easily done all of the above and found it a pretty average type of night.  But instead, we talked about the adventure we were on throughout the evening and regularly affirmed how much we were enjoying hanging out together.  We had a great night of laughing and reveling in each others company while making a special memory.
